New York, NY (Sports Network) - New York Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire is scheduled to undergo his second knee debridement procedure of the season.
Stoudemire complained earlier on Saturday of soreness in both of his knees and was at first considered questionable to play against the Jazz, but now will once again be forced from action for a significant amount of time.
The 30-year-old missed New York's first 30 games recovering from a knee debridement procedure in October on his left knee, but this time will need surgery on his right knee. He is expected to miss about six weeks.
Stoudemire had been thriving in a bench role for the Knicks since his return, but had his minutes increased in the last three games to compensate for the loss of team-leading scorer Carmelo Anthony, who will sit for a third straight game after injuring his knee on Monday against Cleveland.
In 29 contests, Stoudemire had posted 14.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
