Fister, Kontos guest speakers at Grizzlies' Hot Stove
Nothing says "it's almost baseball season" like having a couple of major leaguers show up to promote your event.
For their annual Hot Stove gala Thursday night, the Fresno Grizzlies were able to get Doug Fister and George Kontos as guest speakers.
Kontos was a last-minute replacement for Ryan Vogelsong, who's sick. But he was on the Giants' team that won the World Series.
Against Doug Fister's Tigers.
But Fister is from Merced and he's a former Diamond Dog. He's happy to represent the valley. Both guys are.
"This isn't just a Major League thing or a Giants...it's affiliated to them, but it's also a community thing, giving back to Fresno County, Fresno area. That's home for me," said Fister.
"I was actually on my way to the airport to head to San Francisco for FanFest and I got a call, asked to step in, and I was very excited to come here and do that," said Kontos. "Vogey, I know he wanted to be here, but I'm glad that I could fill in for him and come and hang out with some Giants fans."
