Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers announced Monday that infielder Mat Gamel will miss the 2013 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Gamel, who was limited to just 21 games last season after tearing the same ACL in May, aggravated his surgically repaired right knee in the team's first full-squad workout over the weekend.

Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke informed reporters of the severity of Gamel's injury on Monday.

The 27-year-old infielder was expected to fill in as a starter at first base for Corey Hart, who will be sidelined for at least the first month of the season after undergoing offseason knee surgery.

Gamel has appeared in 106 games over parts of five seasons with the Brewers and is a career .229 hitter with six home runs and 29 RBI.
