Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Steelers placed linebacker Chris Carter on injured reserve on Thursday.

A fifth-round draft pick of the Steelers in 2011, he made his first three starts this year and over eight games he had eight tackles. He suffered an abdominal injury that will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.

To take his spot on the roster, the team promoted linebacker Marshall McFadden from the practice squad to the active roster. He was signed to the team's roster on January 18.

The team also signed tight end Jamie McCoy to the practice squad.
