Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Andruw Jones was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of domestic battery.

The Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday that Jones was taken into custody in Gwinnett County early on Christmas morning after allegedly assaulting his wife, Nicole.

According to an incident report obtained by the paper, Jones consumed several alcoholic beverages during the party, then both he and his wife argued as they both prepared the house for Christmas Day events. Jones grabbed his wife on the arm, then on one of her ankles, pulled her down, put his hands around her neck and threatened to kill her.

Jones' wife was able to escape, and called the police from her parents' house. The 35-year-old power hitter was booked into Gwinnett County Jail at approximately 4 a.m. ET but released hours later on $2,500 bond.

A native of Curacao, Jones hit just .197 with 14 home runs and 34 RBI in 94 games with the New York Yankees a season ago. In 2,196 appearances for the Braves (1996-2007), Dodgers (2008), Rangers (2009), White Sox (2010) and Yankees (2011-12), Jones is a lifetime .254 hitter who has slugged 434 homers, drove in 1,289 runs and scored 1,204 times.

Jones will play in 2013 for Tohoku of Japan's Pacific League.
