Rangers make Pierzynski signing official

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers made the official announcement on Wednesday, signing free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski to a one-year contract.

Pierzynski hit .278 with a career-high 27 home runs, 18 doubles and 77 RBI in 135 games for the White Sox in 2012.

The 35-year-old Long Island native spent the last eight seasons of his 15-year career in Chicago, helping the Pale Hose win the World Series in 2005, their first since 1917.

Over 1,629 games for the Twins, Giants and ChiSox since 1998, Pierzynski holds a .284 average with 155 homers and 730 RBI. Pierzynski has played in the postseason four times, posting a career .300 average with five home runs and 17 RBI in 30 appearances.
