Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Former Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb retired from baseball on Monday.
Webb, 33, had not pitched in the major leagues since opening day 2009 due to shoulder problems. He had surgery to repair it and his labrum in August 2009, then required another surgery to his rotator cuff in August 2011. He was planning on pursuing another comeback attempt, but decided to call it quits.
From 2006-2008 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Webb went 56-25 with a 3.13 ERA. He won the National League Cy Young Award in 2006, posting a 16-8 record with a 3.10 ERA and 178 strikeouts, and finished second in the voting in both 2007 and 2008. In 2008, he won 22 games.
Over his seven-year career with Arizona, Webb had a career record of 87-62 with a 3.27 ERA and 1,065 strikeouts in 199 games, all but one as a starter.
