A robbery in Fresno went bad... for the bad guy.

A man armed with a handgun demanded cash from a the clerk at the Valero gas station on First Street near Olive Tuesday night.

What he didn't count on was a second clerk who then attacked him.

Sgt. Eddie Barrios with the Fresno Police Department said, "A second employee came out from the back of the store somewhere, armed with a club and struck the suspect. That forced the suspect to drop the handgun on the counter."

The first clerk then grabbed the gun and the second clerk chased the suspect out of the store.

The gun turned out to be a fake.

The suspect got away.
