An inflatable slide flipped over after it was hit with a gust of wind on Friday. The accident left five children injured. It happened outside of Jefferson Elementary School on Fowler Avenue. That’s between Shaw and Gettysburg in Clovis. The children weren’t seriously injured; they had minor cuts and bruises.

The slide was pinned down, but a powerful gust of wind picked up the entire slide along with the stakes in the grass and knocked it over. Seven students all in the 5th grade were on the slide when the accident happened. Witnesses say teachers jumped onto the slide trying to hold it down. The slide was part of a reward for the children because of their spring fundraiser. All day classes were brought out to enjoy the slide. About seventy children were on the playground when the accident took place. Clovis Unified spokesperson, Kelly Avants says, "We always look ahead obviously when we do activities like this. When the event started the wind was very light and at this point what caused the item to tip over was a random dust devil." Investigators were out there to make sure all the safety procedures were taking place before the accident.

One child was put in a body bag at the scene. She was not dead but had sustained a broken back and was believed to be paralysed. Scary. Glad the news was fair and got the story correct.

Amazing that the school would set up bounce houses on a day where the top weather story for our area was about all the wind advisories in effect. Where's the common sense from the school officials? When I send my kids to school, I need to trust that the staff and principal will make the right decision to keep them safe!

Minor cuts and bruises, huh? Nice to know head injuries and broken bones are minor. Interesting that when this aired at 6:00, the parents were still waiting at the hospital for CT Scans and X-Rays to find out if their children had fractured necks, spinal injuries or brain damage from being flung 15 ft to the ground. And you believed what they told you 47?

How was it pinned down? 12 inch nails or 40 inch metal stakes? In the interview with the school official you can she the flags in the background blowing straight out. Random, I don't think so!
