Farmers on the west side of the Valley are only getting 25% of their water delivery.
That figure comes from the Bureau of Reclamation.
This year, the snowpack in the Sierra is below normal and water supplies from the state and federal pumps in the south delta have been reduced to protect the delta smelt.
The California Farm Coalition released this response to the news: "The water sent to the ocean was supposed to protect delta smelt... The only reality from this action is that the water is gone that could have been used later this year to grow fruits and vegetables."
