Fresno State's president gives one of his last big speeches before retirement.
John Welty addressed faculty and staff before the start of the spring semester.
Welty has led the university for two decades and despite challenges along the way, he says a lot has been accomplished. "As I look back over the last 20 years. we've been very, very fortunate as a university community to continue to grow, expand our offerings, add doctoral programs, establish the Smitcamp Family Honors College. We've certainly added physical part of the campus and I think we've affectively engaged in this region. So there are lots of things that I feel very good about."
In April of last year, Welty announced would be retire this spring.
Welty has served as Fresno State's president since 1991.
