A celebration tonight welcomes Fresno's new Catholic Bishop.

More than a year after the death of Bishop John Steinbock, Bishop Armando Ochoa will be the 5th Bishop of the Diocese of Fresno.

The parish embraced their new spiritual leader at St. Johns Cathedral Wednesday night, where Ochoa lead his first evening prayer.

This ceremony was reserved for Clergy.

The 68 year old speaks fluent Spanish and comes to the Valley from Texas.

The Pope appointed Ochoa to lead after the death of Bishop John Steinbock back in December of 2010.

Now he will lead the 1.2 million Valley Catholics.

Thursday's special mass will take place at 1:30pm at St. Anthony of Padua.

It will be open to the public.
