Fresnans for clean air, also known as FRESCA, walked into the city clerks office in Fresno and handed them a copy of the lawsuit filed Tuesday morning.

"We do not believe that they did a good job, it was rushed," said Dee Barnes with FRESCA.

FRESCA says the city of Fresno failed to prepare an environmental impact report concerning traffic and air quality with the new residential solid waste program, Mid-Valley Disposal.

"They'll be going out to Kerman to unload the trash.  That's round trip from city hall which is really close to where Mid-Valley is is over 40 miles," said Fresno resident, Howard Watkins.

They say Mid-Valley will have to make multiple trips and this will affect a particular part of Fresno most.

"This has significant air quality issues, especially in West Fresno which already has a very high percentage of the air quality issues," said Watkins.

The city of Fresno released a statement saying, "The proposal essentially maintains services involving the same routes and same trucks, although at lesser rates to the public."

The city also says they're prepared to address each issue being raised in the lawsuit.
