An Amtrak train partially derailed near Hanford when it was struck by a big rig.

The accident happened shortly after noon Monday between Kansas and 10th.

Amtrak #712 left Oakland at 7:30 a.m. Monday morning heading to Bakersfield.

A big rig traveling on Kansas Avenue reportedly struck the last two cars of the train, forcing the cars loaded with passengers off the railroad tracks.

About 50 passengers were treated at the scene and some were transported to area hospitals.

There were 169 passengers and 4 crew on the train. None of the crew was injured.

The driver of the big rig was pinned inside the cab but was safely removed from the wreckage and was not seriously injured.

The tracks were expected to reopen around 6:00 p.m.

Anyone with questions or concerns for Amtrak can call their hotline at (800) 523-9101.
