The Fresno County Sheriff's Department is gearing up for the hot summer by doing more swift water rescue training.

Members of different units are learning to rescue people using rescue boards, boats, and swimming skills.

Sgt. Kathy Curtice with the Fresno County Sheriff's Department said, "It's coming into the summertime in the Central Valley. Statistically speaking, unfortunately we have a lot of drownings take place. We have a lot of people who flock to the waterways in Fresno County."

The sheriff's departments stresses if you're not a strong swimmer, it's best to stay out of moving water.
