Two murder suspects are behind bars Friday night after police say they killed a man the night of Super Bowl Sunday. David Quevedo, 24, and Rayann Rodriguez, 22, were arrested by Fresno Police on Thursday. The victim was 25-year-old Omar Silva. He was shot while standing inside his front door.
Silva's family is relieved by the arrests. His 14-year-old daughter, Airiana, who answered the door when the suspects showed up, witnessed the shooting and now lives with those memories. She spoke to CBS47 after learning two people are now behind bars.
“That really relieved me. We were just waiting, you know. Like, he's gone and all we wanted was justice,” said Airiana.
Bullet holes through a screen door show where shots were fired the night of Super Bowl Sunday. Police say Quevedo came to the front door, brazenly shooting Omar Silva in his own living room. Some bullets traveled back out through the glass window. Fresno police say its typical gang violence.
“They're reckless, they don't have a conscious, they don't care who they hurt or whether it's in front of a family member or innocent bystanders. They really have no value for life,” said Captain Randy Dobbins of the Fresno Police Department.
Officers say the victim's family is not involved in a gang. The shooting stemmed from a fight earlier in the afternoon involving the victim's brother.
“He and some of his family members got the best of the Bulldogs. The bulldogs were still upset. When they left they said they would return shortly,” said Dobbins.
When the suspects came back, they shot the wrong man. Silva died in the hospital the next day.
Surveillance cameras on a neighbor's home helped catch the suspects. Detectives working the case served seven search warrants on Thursday. They arrested Quevedo on the 4800 block of East University Ave. Police believe Quevedo was the shooter and Rodriguez drove the getaway car.
While Silva says she feels safer knowing the suspects are locked up, she's still grieving the loss of her father.
“We had this little handshake thingy we always did,” said Airiana.
