A man is now in the Fresno County Jail, accused of assaulting an officer.

The suspect was arrested near Kerman after a police chase.

The man was wanted for domestic violence and now accused of trying to run over a police officer.

Lt. Tom Rowe with the Fresno Police Department said, "Our officers were trying to remove him from the vehicle at which point the suspect actually threw the vehicle into reverse and struck one of our officers with the car door."

Police eventually caught the man after they tasered him in an almond orchard.

Investigators say the man was serving a prison sentence in the community under the governor's prison realignment program.
