Students at Fresno State staged a large walkout out Wednesday, skipping classes to voice their frustration over state budget cuts that have led to fewer classes and higher tuition.
The protest was held in the Peace Garden on the campus of Fresno State and school administrators said they would not interfere as long as the noise did not disrupt classes. Administrators say it’s the students right to express their freedom of speech and the school agrees that the state needs to do more to improve higher education.
The protest was brought about by the opposition to state raising student fees by 32%, cutting about 1,000 classes and laying off 200 faculty members. The changes have caused a logjam for students trying to get the classes they need to graduate on time.
