Last Friday 18-year-old Michael Barela was celebrating his birthday with close friends and family at a home on Thompson avenue.

During the celebration a van drove up to the home a man, got out and fired nine shots.

One of them struck the victim in the head, he died three days later.

We spoke with a friend of the teen today about the shooting.

"That day I was just in the back room and just heard some shots. By the time I came out the side door my sister's son was chasing the car." Bernardino Delariba said.

"There was a van a blue or green, described as possible an older model n, mid-nineties model van and we're actively looking for that." Selma Police Detective Joshua Johnson said.

Investigators say they don't think Barela was the intended target.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Selma Police Department.
