Blood stains on the window, a chilling reminder of the shoot out that happened at this Madera pharmacy.

"They tried to shoot at us over the counter," Brain Lee said.

Police say 2 suspects, Aquilla Bailey and Jonte Harris tried to rob a Madera pharmacy for drugs Tuesday night.

"They were looking for promethazine, a prescription cough syrup," Steve Frazier, Madera Chief of Police said.

Bailey was shot and killed by the pharmacy owner.

"If it weren't for that, we'd be 2 corpses," Brian Lee said.

Jonte Harris is now beind bars.

His bullet wounds were part of the evidence that led to an arrest.

CBS47 was the only station there when he was being taken into custody.

"Mr. Harris got 2 gunshot wounds to his leg so he was arrested last night on homicide charges," Frazier said.

Police say the shooting caught one of the suspects off guard.

"Mr. Harris was surprised that his partner began shooting apparently they didn't discuss things before going in," Frazier said.

While police say are relieved to have a second suspect behind bars, they're still on the look out for a third person.

"We believe the third suspect was the driver of the vehicle," Frazier said.

The pharmacy doesn't have surveillance video, but police are hoping the buildings surrounding the area do.

"Looking for third suspect, we expect to have that individual in custody today," Frazier said.
