The Fresno Chaffee Zoo began filling up the new Sea Lion Cove exhibit on Friday.

The massive project is set to open later this year and will treat zoo visitors to a look at California sea lions in a roomy habitat.

The new exhibit has a lower area that allows visitors to view the swimming under water.

Sea Lion Cove is the first major exhibit funded by Measure Z, approved by Fresno County voters back in 2004.

This is just the start of great things at the Chaffee Zoo...the "Africa" expansion will definitely put the Fresno-based zoo on the map as a destination; it will be a spectacular zoo, that will rank among the best in California. Congratulations, Chaffee Zoo!
