New Fresno Police Auditor Rick Rasmussen released his first report Friday at Fresno City Hall. A top concern was how often Fresno Police fire when deadly force is called for.

“The number of rounds fired in officer involved shootings, that has been a concern for not only us but all law enforcement agencies," said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

In the report it was found that there was a "propensity for officers to fire their weapons numerous times" and it recommended that "each officer is questioned about each round fired in every incident," according to the Office of Independent Review Report.

"It's a training issue, it's a confidence issue, it's a firearms skills issue," said Rick Rasmussen.

In the past three years officer involved shootings have remained in double figures, with twelve in 2010, eleven in 2011 and ten in 2012.

For Chief Dyer, today's report was another step in an effort to better serve the people of Fresno.

"That is what we strive to do as an agency. To be transparent, so that we can enhance the trust our community has in our officers," said Dyer.
