The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly an accident involving a Fresno County sheriff's deputy.
A pedestrian was walking along a dark, remote stretch of Highway 145 in Western Fresno County when they were struck and killed by the deputy.
The accident happened just before midnight Monday night about 17 miles northeast of Coalinga, near Highway 145 and Eldorado.
The deputy was on patrol at the time and was shaken up by the accident but not injured.
Investigators are trying to determine why the pedestrian was walking along the highway in the middle of the night.
The victim has not yet been identified.
