Fresno Police investigators say the crime happened around 7:00 Friday evening outside Fresno Community Market at Blackstone and Illinois.

Police say a man armed with a gun approached a woman and then the situation turned violent.

"In the process of forcibly taking her vehicle from her a shot was fired by the suspect at the victim," said Lt. David Newton of the Fresno Police Dept.

The woman was not hit by the gunfire; however, the suspect took off in her car.  Fresno Police quickly arrived on the scene, a short pursuit ensued and then it came to an end with a crash at the intersection of Illinois and First Street.

"At one point the suspect was driving on the wrong side of First Street.  The suspect tried to avoid another citizen and spun out in his vehicle and struck a tree," said Lt. Newton.

The suspect was taken away in an ambulance.  He's at the hospital listed in serious condition.  Police identify him as 29-year-old Isaac Sanders of Fresno.  He's facing carjacking and other charges.

Meanwhile, a Fresno Police car responding the pursuit collided with a citizen's vehicle but there were no injuries.
