A Northwest Fresno Japanese restaurant is closed on Wednesday following an overnight fire.

It started in the kitchen around 2:30 a.m. at Takumi Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar on Shaw Avenue near Valentine.

The Fresno Fire Department say rags soaked with cooking and cleaning oils caused the fire.

Sprinklers in the kitchen kept the flames from spreading. Damage is estimated around $10,000.

Management says the restaurant should be open again on Thursday.
