Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a blaze around midnight on the 4th of July at a furniture store near Kings Canyon and Maple.

The apartments above the furniture store were destroyed but most of the business was saved, other than heavy water and smoke damage.

While the cause has not been determined, fire crews have not ruled out illegal fireworks yet.

Fresno Fire Department Battalion Chief Tony Escobedo said, "All our resources have been going from one call to the next, this started yesterday [Monday], and it's one of the most heaviest celebrated 4th of July's in the last 20 years. I've never seen more illegal fireworks used in the last decade."

The Fresno Fire Department is planning a noon news conference to talk about the use of illegal fireworks, the numbers of fires and damage estimates.
