Overnight fire at Fresno apartment

An apartment fire started shortly after midnight Thursday morning at the complex near Olive and Fresno Street.

Police were also called to the scene because of reports of a fight.

Lawrence French with the Fresno Fire Department said, "As our crews were responding and we were advised Fresno PD was responding for an altercation. Whether or not it had anything to do with the actual fire, the initiation of the fire, is unknown pending investigation of both the criminal element, which Fresno PD will conduct their investigation and our cause and origin determination will be determined by our arson investigator."

The cause is being investigated. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
