A man looking to meet in person, a woman he met online, was carjacked around midnight near the Chandler Airport.

Online relationship leads to carjacking

The Hispanic man in his 40s had driven to the area of Kearney and Thorne, hoping to find the woman that he'd just met in an online chat room.

She never showed, but two men waiting nearby pulled the man from his gold Toyota Tacoma pickup, punched him and stole his wallet and drove away in his truck.

Police say this kind of scam is common and can be easily avoided. They suggest, if you're going to meet someone you only know on-line, arrange that meeting in a busy public place, not a dark street at midnight.

Police are still looking for the stolen truck and the suspects.
