An off-duty CHP officer shoot a man with a concealed weapons permit.

The cop was driving his personal car near University and Orchard when he says he spotted a suspected drunk driver.

He started following the car and that's when the other driver flashed a gun.

The off-duty officer fired his weapon at the armed man, hitting him in the hand.

Both the injured man and CHP officer are being questioned by detectives.

Madera police and the CHP are both investigating the shooting.

There have been no arrests at this point and no names have been released.
