The winter storm made for perfect conditions up at China Peak.  Conner Kirk and his friends came up on Tuesday for one reason.

"Fresh powder, just powder all day," said Kirk, an 18-year-old snowboarder.

The light snow started falling in the morning and was only expected to get heavier.  Although it makes for a cold day, avid snowboarders and skiers say it's worth it.

"It's just faster, nicer, softer.  You can go through the trees in and out and you don't have to worry about ice or anything.  Powder is better," said Kirk.

China Peak's Rich Bailey says the mountain needed this storm.  It's both good for sport and the bottom line.

"When God gives us snow it's the best deal there is.  Snowmaking can be expensive," said Bailey.

All season, China Peak has been running snow machines at night, supplementing areas that need it.  But nothing can replicate Mother Nature.

"This is awesome!  It's going to freshen things up," said Bailey.

Another great thing about being on the mountain Tuesday, you could have almost any run all to yourself.  That freedom is good for beginners, as well as the more experienced, because there's more room to try some tricks.

China Peak hopes to stay open until mid-April this season.
