A Kings County hospital is planning to build a new birthing center.

Adventist Medical Center, located near Highway 198 and 12th Avenue in Hanford unveiled the plans for the new project on Thursday.

The new $40 million birth center will be built right next to the existing hospital.

The medical staff says this current birth center is outdated and does not meet earthquake standards. "It's not suitable to continue to provide care,"  said Richard Ellsworth, chief of medical staff.

The new facility would take care of the high demand, with 34 private beds and new equipment and technology.

Doctors say it will be the best state of the art facility in Hanford.

The entire project is expected to be completed in the next two years.
