The Fresno Unified School Board has a new president. The board's clerk, Valerie Davis, is taking the position.
Davis was nominated Wednesday after Dr. Tony Vang stepped down last Friday, amid controversy over his residency in the district he represents.
Dr. Vang was not at Wednesday's meeting, so did not vote for his replacement.
Vang stepped down as president after accusations he's been living outside Fresno Unified boundaries for several years, which he denies.
Vang intends to remain on the board as a trustee.
The board members first voted for Carol Mills for president but she declined the position.
The board then voted for Valerie Davis as the new president and Cal Johnson to serve as the new clerk.
Davis will serve as president until December, and then the board will vote again on another president.
