A new movie called "The Help" hits close to home for a local group called the Junior League of Fresno.
The movie is set in the sixties during the civil rights era. It tells of a young woman who is in the Junior League, who asks a black maid to tell how life is working for rich white women, a dangerous request with a powerful message.
The Junior League President of Fresno says the movie represents how the international group has become more diverse over the years and she is an example of how attitudes have changed since then.
Junior League of Fresno President Lisa Haynes-Scott "It just shows how diverse and how great the women in Junior League are. To become the president, it has to be that your peers respond to you and they respect you. And that's what it shows me, my peers have a lot of respect for me and together we're going to make Junior League of Fresno great."
There is a Junior League in every city in the U.S. and the members volunteer to improve the quality of life for women and children in the community.
The movie The Help is due out in theaters on August 10th.
