Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday morning he will step down at the end of the month.

Pope Benedict said he is too old and too weak to perform his duties, so he made the decision to step down.

This is the first time a Pope has stepped down in 600 years.

The Catholic church will be without a pope for a period of time, until the cardinals can select a new successor.

Pope Benedict was born Josef Ratziner and became pope in 2005 following the death of Pope John Paul II.

CBS47's Mike Scott visited St. Anthony's Church in Fresno where some local Catholics had not yet heard the news.

Mike traveled to the Vatican two years ago and posted photos on his blog. Click the related link to see the photos.
