“I'm feeling good today. I'm feeling better than I was Friday,” said Rayshawn Neely, the injured PG&E worker.
Last Friday, Rayshawn Neely was pinned for about 20 minutes between the bumpers of a car and PG&E utility truck.
“I was thinking about my kids, I was thinking about my wife. Is this how it's going to happen right here?” said Neely.
Neely and his co-workers were on a construction project when he stopped to check his phone. Seconds later a car plowed into him.
“I didn't see the guy and didn't hear tires screeching,” said Neely.
Neely broke his leg and four of his toes.
“It's amazing that's all that came out of it,” said Neely.
Investigators say the driver who hit him is Jett McBride. He’s a 54-year old man who had just been released from a mental health facility in Washington the day before this crash.
“He claimed to be Jesus Christ,” said Neely.
Neely says two ladies tried to help him and then McBride began to beat them up. Moments later a hitchhiker got involved and hit McBride over the head with a hatchet.
“I’d like to thank all of them for being there and hopefully, maybe not under the same circumstances, I can help those guys out one day in another way,” said Neely.
Wednesday, McBride was charged in court on four counts, including attempted murder. He entered a not guilty plea. His attorney spoke on his behalf.
“He was remorseful of this incident,” said Scott Baly, Defense Attorney.
Neely doesn't wish ill thoughts against his attacker, he just wants him to get help.
“My concern is I don't want him out on the street. I don't want you guys sitting in someone else's house interviewing someone because this time he killed someone or they're in the same predicament I'm in,” said Neely.
Neely should have his cast removed in about two months, then he can begin physical therapy. He looks forward to returning to the field as a PG&E worker.
