Lanes Fire Evacuations Have Been Lifted

UPDATE at 4:00PM August 12, 2012

Cal Fire officials have notified those living on Beal Fire Road that they may return home.

Evacuations were lifted for Beal Fire Road and the evacuation advisory for Meadow Lakes has been cancelled as well.

At this time the Lanes Fire is 30 percent contained.

UPDATE at 10:30AM August 12, 2012:

The Lanes Fire has continued to keep residents from their homes, as Beal Fire Road remains closed to the public.

Cal Fire's PIO John Dominguez has notified CBS47 that two lanes of Highway 168 are open for two-way traffic. 

The fire is 30 percent contained and has burned 138 acres with 40 homes still threatened at this time.

Dominguez stated that multiple agencies are assisting with the fire and 11 injuries to fire crews have been reported.

UPDATE at 7:00PM on August 11, 2012:

Two lanes of Highway 168 at Four Lanes are expected to reopen at ten this evening. Traffic will be allowed to go in both directions.

Investigators have learned that the wildfire was started by someone tossing a cigarette.

Six firefighters have been treated for heat exhaustion.

We will have the latest at the scene on CBS47 at 11.

FROM EARLIER:

A large grass fire on highway 168 has called for evacuations of residents in the area of Auberry.

Cal Fire’s PIO John Dominguez stated the fire, which started around 12:15 pm, has burned approximately 150 acres and is spreading rapidly.  

Dominguez said the fire is threatening 200 homes in the area and mandatory evacuations were called for residents in the area of Beal Fire Road, while an evacuation advisory was set for residents in Meadow Lake.

CHP continues to have the four lanes closed on highway 168 in both directions and there is no timetable on when the lanes will be opened.

PG&E has also turned off power in the area of Bald Mountain Road for safety reasons as fire crews continue to battle the fire.

I went by this fire not minutes after it started. I was about to call it in, but I heard a dispatch for the fire over my scanner. It was rather small when we had seen it. How quick they grow. Be careful everyone!
