Saturday, a Kings County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man who went on a rampage with a golf club.

It happened at a home on Kansas Avenue at 13th Avenue.  The suspect's name is not being released.  We only know that he's believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s.

The emergency call came in around noon.  A man reported his brother was wildly swinging a golf club, breaking things inside the house and threatening to hurt him.  So deputies entered the home and that's when they ran into trouble.

“The subject charged at the deputy with the golf club in hand as if he was going to strike the deputy with the golf club,” said said Sheriff Dave Robinson.

Deputies retreated; however, one of them fired a couple of bullets which hit the suspect.

“The subject dropped the golf club but continued to fight with the deputies on scene,” said Sheriff Robinson.

Deputies finally subdued him and then got him an ambulance, but he would later die at the hospital.

Meanwhile, just this past Thursday in the city of Hanford, another dispute between brothers turned deadly.  Officers did not fire a gun in this case.  It was 26-year old Samuel Ayala who allegedly shot and killed his 19-year old sibling.

As for the situation Saturday, Sheriff Robinson says his team tried to calm down the suspect, but his decision to not cooperate and fight back is what cost him his life.

“Unfortunately things like this do happen and it was just a split second reaction by the deputy on scene,” said Sheriff Robinson.

The coroner will run an autopsy and toxicology test to see if the suspect was drunk or on drugs.
