Hazmat crews were still on the scene, several hours after an ammonia leak forced evacuations at Golden State Vintners.

The winery is located at Chateau Fresno and West Central Avenue in Southwest Fresno County.

The leak was detected shortly after 5:00 a.m. and the employees were evacuated but the plant was still closed when this story aired Thursday afternoon.

There were between 40 and 50 employees at the plant and most were evacuated to a holding area set up by the Fresno Fire Department about 2 miles away.

At least three employees were taken to area hospitals for ammonia exposure.

The plant is expected to reopen sometime Thursday afternoon.
