A 39-year old Hispanic woman is in critical condition after she was shot inside a home in Central Fresno.

It's the latest incident in a 24 hour wave of violence in the city.

Police tape blocked off Thorne Avenue at Thomas near Roeding Park as detectives made their way into the home where a woman was shot.

A 9-1-1 call came in around four in the afternoon: A gunman had walked into the house and shot the woman multiple at close range.

“Because he did enter and specifically target the victim we have to believe that there was some type of prior disturbance or acquaintance or something that has caused this. We don't believe this is a random act of violence,” said Lt. Anthony Martinez with the Fresno Police Department.

Police questioned a man who was in the house at the time of the shooting.

The exact motive for the shooting isn't known yet.

But it's unnerving for neighbors. Navy Yang and her family live right across the street.

“This is crazy. I don't want my kids to see this, they're wondering what's going on,” Yang said.

The shooting follows a very violent Sunday night.

Two men were killed and a third wounded in three separate shootings.

One of the victims - 33-year-old Roberto Briceno - tried to stop thieves who were breaking into his neighbor's car.

“He's like, yeah, ‘they were breaking into your car, the guy was already in there and I pulled him out and we started fighting.’ He's all, and he was bleeding from the back of his head,” said Idalia Martinez, Briceno’s neighbor.

Briceno was shot as he walked home.

Ninety minutes later in the Tower District, 35-year-old Omar Silva was shot after a Super Bowl party at his home on Hedges near Poplar.

The intended target was Silva's brother, who wasn't home.

Police believe the suspects in both murders are gang members.

“Both of these incidents are not your traditional gang type shooting where there is a drive-by shooting based on some type of a gang feud,” said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

Police have a description of the suspect in the Thorne Avenue shooting. He is described as a white male, six foot to six foot two inches tall, with a shaved head, clean shaven – no facial hair.

If you have information on any of the shootings, you’re asked to contact the Fresno Police Department at 621-7000.
