A local organization is joining the call for an independent police auditor for the City of Fresno.

The city used to have one before budget cuts eliminated the position.

Last week, Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin said she wants to bring it back.

On Monday, the Central California Criminal Justice Committee joined the call for a police auditor.

Gerry Bill with the committee said, "We think it's really scandalous a city of our size has no outside oversight of the police at all."

Not only does the committee want the position reinstated, they also want the auditor's authority strengthened.

The council is expected to discuss the matter on Wednesday.
