Governor Jerry Brown took to the national airwaves to talk about his ballot measure to raise taxes.

Brown talked about Prop 30 on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.

The plan raises the state sales tax but Brown also wants to increase taxes for those in the highest income bracket.

The governor says the taxes are needed to get the state out of debt. "If the people vote no, which they certainly can, then there is going to be automatically cut $5.5 billion from the schools and community colleges, that is three weeks of school, and it will take half a billion from our colleges, that's automatic. We have cut Medi-Cal, we've cut prisons almost 20 percent. That's the only thing left," said Governor Brown.

If the 7-year tax hike is approved, much of the money from it would go toward education.

I would not mind paying more in taxes if the illegal immigrant population didn't benifit from it. My 10th generation Californian children are being forced to pay more for their education because of the benifits we give to the illegal immigrant population. Put the Citizens of California first for a change and let us reap the benefits of living in the Golden State.

Unreal. I certainly hope the citizens vote no on this propostion to raise our taxes. I guess brown doesn't realize that the majority of citizens here in California can not afford to pay more. We are having a difficult time financially and this idiot wants to raise our taxes. Brown threatens to do all sorts of things but vote no to raises our taxes. They are already too high and they will never go down no matter how much the politicians say it will.
