The girlfriend of a Fresno State fraternity pledge who died after a night of drinking shares her frustration.

Friends of 18-year-old Philip Dhanens are in shock.

A police investigation into what happened that night is underway.

“It just kills me because I feel it could have been prevented,” said Zoe Tucker, Philip Dhanens’ girlfriend.

She still can't believe he's gone.

Her high school sweetheart, who was Prom King to her Prom Queen.

And all apparently because of a night of drinking.

She learned Philip drank two bottles of rum Friday night at Theta Chi fraternity.

According to police, someone in the fraternity put Philip in the so-called "sober up" room...

Later when a person checked on him, he was unconscious, so they called 911.

“I'm not angry with him. I just wish there were some people to look out for him, like I wish I was there to look after him to keep him from doing anything to hurt his family or him,” Tucker said.

Fresno police are investigating what happened that night at the fraternity.

“We have a young man that has lost his life and we take that very, very seriously,” said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

Fresno police Chief Jerry Dyer says his detectives are talking to the people who were at Theta Chi. It appears there were around 30 people at the house.

“We are looking primarily who furnished the alcohol what happened during the time they consumed the alcohol what was said to the pledges the level of care that was provided,” Dyer said.

That will determine what criminal charges are filed.

His officers seized several bottles of hard alcohol.

They did not find any evidence of drugs.

Zoe Tucker is left with memories and pictures And Philip’s class ring. And so many unanswered questions, why her good friend couldn't stay with her in life a little longer.

A vigil will be held Tuesday night at Fresno state for Philip Dhanens.

It will be held from 8:45 to 9 p-m at the Free Speech area on campus.

I personally find it very humorous that Chief Dyer is "taking this loss of life very seriously". what about the dozen people killed in your city every week Jerry? Not too serious about finding those culprits, are you? If its not high profile, it aint worth Jerrys time. Way to go for that publicity Chief!

It's so sad, the family must be devastated. If he had avoided college, joined a gang and hung out with misfits, he probably would still be alive. At least gang members look out for their own, what a sad commentary on our society.

underage binge drinking is not just encouraged by this society it is glamorized. the majority of college students who drink do so to fit in. I went to college AFTER being in the Army. I was amused by my student peers that 5 or so years younger then me had the maturity of a retarded gang banger. You parents pay a fortune to send your children to diploma mills and do nothing to instill in them a moral compass or any amount of wisdom. this is now tradition in this nation. These drunken fools are the future of America and the rest of us sober Americans have to deal with them......so much for Higher Education....
