There is a new warning about people soliciting donations for funeral expenses on street corners. A scam had been uncovered by Visalia.
A group of people were standing at the intersection of Mooney Boulevard and Whitendale holding up signs, seeking donations for a funeral. However, officers recognized the photo on the signs.
They had seen these people just more than a month ago at Demaree and Goshen. The people who were collecting donations had cloth pouches around their necks (which hold the money).
3 people were cited yesterday afternoon, and admitted that they weren’t soliciting for a funeral at all. But that they were unemployed and trying to raise money for their bills. More than $100 was seized.
