Sign the grant application so our students can get a chance at almost $40 million in cash for schools.

That's the urging of Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin and several other city leaders. They're talking about an application for a Race to The Top grant, which is a federal program that provides money for early child education.

Mayor Swearengin said, "I think when it comes to this Race to the Top application, and the current position of the Fresno Teachers Association, I think they're getting it wrong. I think they need to reconsider, come back to the table with the school district, raise whatever legitimate issues they may have

The Fresno Teachers Union doesn't want to sign off on the grant application for several reasons. One reason they say they have not had enough time to review the 191 page document.

I wonder what 'strings' are attached to this grant? There always are .... and it usually means teachers will be hammered more than they are already. FTA needs time to see what the long term ramifications are and if this grant (if, if, if used properly)....will it positively impact our students education. Give FTA time to review it properly.
