Deputy Taken to Hospital for Observation
A Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy is in the hospital after a bizarre incident Wednesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol starting getting calls around 7:30 a.m. that a Sheriff's patrol car was driving erratically on Highway 168 at Temperance.
It was unclear who was driving the car because the Deputy was not answering his radio or his cell phone.
More calls came in from other citizens from the area of Highway 99 and Selma a few minutes later.
The patrol car finally came to a stop at Highway 41 and Bullard when it hit the curb and blew out one of the front tires.
Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims was scheduled to speak to the media at 11:00 a.m. to discuss the incident but cancelled the press conference to gather more information.
Lt. Burke Farrah with the Fresno Police Department said, “The Fresno Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol is working in cooperation with the Fresno Police Department to conduct a thorough investigation of this issue and to ensure that we take a good look at exactly what happened and why it happened.
The deputy was taken to the hospital to undergo a thorough examination to determine what caused the erratic behavior.
