A crash in southeast Fresno Sunday evening caused some residents to lose electricity and the driver to potentially lose her license.

Fresno Police arrested the young woman behind the wheel of an SUV for being drunk.  Investigators say she was unable to control her vehicle on Peach Ave. and smashed into a power pole and a tree.

“No one else was in the car with her which was very fortunate.  There's a lot of traffic up and down this roadway and no one else was struck by the vehicle, so that's very fortunate,” said Lt. Joe Gomez of the Fresno Police Dept.

Paramedics checked out the young woman who was driving.  She was not hurt, but officers noticed something else.

“Right away it appeared she was under the influence of alcohol,” said Lt. Gomez.

Police put her through a series of tests including walking a straight line, which she did not do very well.  She then blew into a breathalyzer.  The results showed she had a blood alcohol level which was around twice the legal limit.

Families and friends are getting together over the next couple of days for Christmas and there's a good chance you'll have some drinks, so police encourage you to act responsibly.

“If you're going to drink don't get behind the wheel of a car.  Have somebody give you a ride, call somebody or wait until you come down off the alcohol.  Do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle,” said Lt. Gomez.
