It was business as usual Wednesday at Fresh & Easy in Downtown Fresno.

Moms Michelle Winter and Gia Davis are there a lot.

The only other supermarket is a couple miles away.

But the chain says "Fresh & Easy" stores could close nationwide.

“We waited a really long time for it to open and its convenient for us...and there really isn't another one around here,” said Michelle Winter.

“It would just be a huge loss for us, we'd have to travel…” said Gia Davis.

Spokesman Brendan Wonnacott said the supermarket's parent company Tesco, based in Britain, could leave the U.S. altogether.

That means different things.

“Be it the sale of the business, potential closure. That all remains to be seen. It’s an outcome of this review process,” said Wonnacott.

The fate of 300 valley employees also remains to be seen and customers worry the changes will impact everyone in downtown.

“I think a lot of people in this area have waited a long time for grocery store to open... you have highest crime area in Fresno and there's nowhere to shop...I don't know that I agree with that,” said Winter.

There are 8 Fresh and Easy locations across the valley.

One, in a busy Fresno shopping center never opened.

The Fresh & Easy down the street shut down in January, one of 12 stores on the West Coast that closed because of poor performance.

But for now, the company emphasizes, no one is closing... yet.
