Self-defense instructor, Art Hugues, held a preview class Thursday night where he showed children how to fight off a potential kidnapper.

“I have to teach the children to strike and get away.  First and paramount is to get away,” said Art Hugues, owner of Missing Link MMA.

Art's inspiration for this course came last week after hearing about the 10-year old Fresno girl who was abducted near a school, then raped.

“Driving down the road I was angry,” said Hugues.

He now has 40 students signed up for free classes happening on Sunday.  It’s open to boys and girls ages 6-16.  There's no guarantee these moves will save every child, but it gives them a fighting chance.

10-year old Alondra Martinez, who has been training since she was seven, now feels comfortable being out on the streets.

“Because the techniques that we do here give me confidence, so if someone tries to tackle me I will know what to do,” said Alondra Martinez, a student.

“It makes me feel good,” said Jane Pecerra.

Jane Pecerra is Alondra's mother.  She thinks all parents should take advantage of this valuable opportunity.

“He’s not asking for money.  He doesn't care about anything but to help the child, your child, so just come try it,” said Pecerra.

Art says as long as there's a demand from people, his door will be open to them.

“These are going to be free classes offered for the children every month,” said Hugues.

If you would like to contact Art Hugues about enrolling in a class either this Sunday or in the future you can call or text him at (559) 213-6591. You can also visit Missing Link MMA located at 898 N. Fulton St. in Fresno.
