Valley residents showed up on Saturday to have their health checked out and receive food. More than 1500 people showed up to take advantage of the free services.
The Community Food Bank , Kaiser Permanente and the Fresno County Economic Opportunities Commission partnered together to host this event. It gave uninsured and under-insured residents an opportunity to get their blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and general health screened.
The Community Food Bank's also had their new Nutrition on Wheels (NOW) moblie commercial kitchen available. It demonstrated healthy cooking tips and had fresh produce and canned goods for families to take home.
Dana Wilkie, CEO of Community Food Bank, said "It is isn't enough to just distribute food. We need to provide nutrition education and show people that healthy food is easy to prepare and can taste good."
