yellow tape, heavy police activity, and crime scene investigators blocking off this apartment unit on Bulldog Lane.

"No, it doesn't shock me." James Riojas said.

18 hours later and the scene hasn't changed much.

Police got the call from a mother who found her 24 year old son's dead body inside the apartment.

"She hadn't heard from her son and came to his apartment and found her son," Mark Salazar, Fresno Police Department said.

Police say the victim - Christian Thomas - suffered a serious stab wound but wouldn't mention where exactly, and while they don't have a motive just yet.

Thomas was no stranger to law enforcement.

"He does have an arrest of drugs and property offenses, but we don't know if that played a role or not," Salazar said.

People who live in the area say having the first murder in Fresno in their backyard doesn't shock them.

"You got to dodge bullets around here sometimes," Riojas said.

Even police say this area on East Bulldog lane is known for heavy gang and drug related issues.

As for who killed the 24 year old Thomas, investigators are still working on back tracking Thomas' activity in the last few days.

"We just want to know who knows what right now," Salazar said.
